Bison Baseball Inks Seven in Early Signing – Valley News Live
NDSU ATHLETICS North Dakota State University head baseball coach Tod Brown announced the addition of seven players on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Catcher Nick Emanuel, right-handed pitcher/infielder Kyle Ferderer, infielder Bennett Hostetler, right-handed pitcher Riley Johnson, catcher/outfielder Jacob Malec and infielder Tucker Rohde signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and play baseball for the Bison beginning in the fall of 2016.
In addition, infielder Charles Hesse has been admitted to NDSU and will play baseball for the Bison next season.

Esko, Minn. (Esko HS)
Emanuel is a three-year letterwinner and starter at Esko High School in Esko, Minn. Last season, as a junior, he batted .431 with 26 hits, eight doubles, one triple, four home runs, 24 RBI and nine stolen bases. Emanuel is a two-time Duluth New Tribune all-area team selection, two-time all-section honoree, two-time academic all-conference selection and three-time all-conference honoree. He is ranked 24th in the 2016 Minnesota Prep Baseball Report and was selected to play on team Minnesota.
Emanuel played for the Twin Cities Baseball Academic last summer, tallying a .456 batting average with 11 doubles, three triples, two homers and 21 RBI. He also stole nine bases and was named to the 18U BCS Perfect Game All-Tournament Team in Fort Myers, Fla.
He also is a two-year starter at quarterback for the football team.

Savage, Minn. (Burnsville HS)
Ferderer is a two-year letterwinner and one-year starter at Burnsville High School in Burnsville, Minn. A native of Savage, Minn., Ferderer was named all-conference and all-section and set a school record for strikeouts in a game as a junior with 16 K’s. He posted a 3-2 record with a 2.10 ERA in 42-and a-third innings pitched with 74 strikeouts and only 12 walks. Ferderer also spent time at third base his junior season.
Ferderer played legion baseball for the Burnsville Cobras where he hit .306 with 19 hits, three doubles, two home runs and 14 runs batted in and posted a 3-2 record with a 0.67 ERA in seven appearances on the mound with 40 strikeouts and just seven walks.

Mendota Heights, Minn. (Henry Sibley HS)
Hesse is a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights, Minn. He was named all-conference as a junior and has received a conference academic recognition award all three seasons at Henry Sibley.
Hesse played for the WSP Legion Challengers this past summer.

Bozeman, Mont. (Bozeman HS)
Hostetler is a three-year starter for the Bozeman Bucks American Legion baseball team in Bozeman, Mont. He was named first team all-state and all-conference in 2015 after hitting .450 with 91 hits, 17 doubles, three triples, three homers, 43 RBI and 52 stolen bases. He was named the Bozeman Bucks Defensive Player of the Year and earned the Bozeman Bucks Silver Slugger Award. Hostetler garnered Under Armour Preseason All-American honors in 2015 and was a team captain for the Bucks.
He also plays football and basketball for Bozeman High School.

Apple Valley, Minn. (Eastview HS)
Johnson is a two-year starter and letterwinner for Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minn. Last season, as a junior, he compiled a 7-2 record and 2.20 ERA in 56 innings pitched with 63 strikeouts and only 29 walks to go along with three saves. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Pitcher and selected to the all-conference and all-section teams.
He played legion baseball for the Eastview Thunder Legion where he compiled a 4-2 record on the mound with a 0.99 ERA, 32 strikeouts and 13 walks.
Johnson was a two-year letterwinner for the Eastview football team.
He is the younger brother of NDSU football redshirt junior offensive guard Zack Johnson.

Proctor, Minn. (Proctor HS)
Malec is a five-year letterwinner and starter and two-year team captain at Proctor High School in Proctor, Minn. As a junior, he tallied a .431 batting average in 21 games played and was named all-conference, all-section and all-area.
Malec played summer baseball for the Minnesota Mash.
He also was a standout football player for Proctor, earning first team all-conference accolades as a senior and honorable mention honors as a junior. He set school records for most passing yards, completions, touchdowns and passing yards in a game.

Scottsdale, Ariz. (Desert Mountain HS)
Rohde is a two-year starter and letterwinner for Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. Last season, as a junior, he hit .321 with six doubles and one triple. He is a three-time Arizona Interscholastic Association Scholar Athlete.
Rohde was a starting infielder to the Arizona Classic Senior All-Academic Game in 2015 and was named to the Perfect Game All-Tournament Team 18U West Memorial Day Classic and the Perfect Game All-Tournament Team 16U Memorial Day Classic.
He played club baseball for Arizona Pro where he was a two-year starter and hit .412 with 10 doubles, three triples and 28 RBI.
North Dakota State finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 20-31, marking the sixth consecutive season the team has won at least 20 games.
