Defending national champion Florida baseball getting brand new stadium – SECcountry.com
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators won their first national championship in baseball last season.
And now, the baseball team will be getting a new home in the near future.
The University Athletic Association submitted a project plan to the University of Florida outlining a new baseball stadium that is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. Construction is expected to begin in August 2018 and the expected price tag is at about $45.8 million.
According to the project plan, which was approved Sunday and released Monday, the new stadium will seat about 5,500 people and have a 360-degree concourse, shade canopy and open air seated grandstand.
The Gators have been one of the most consistent baseball teams in the country under coach Kevin O’Sullivan. In his first 10 years at the helm of the program, Florida has won four SEC regular-season championships, two SEC Tournaments and reached the College World Series six times. They won their first national championship last season after sweeping LSU in the best-of-three championship series in Omaha, Neb.
