Plenty of movement in Cubs’ Baseball America top 30 prospect list – Chicago Tribune

There are plenty of newcomers in the Chicago Cubs’ top 30 prospect list in Baseball America’s recently published 2017 Prospect Handbook.

Seven of the 30 players from last season’s list have dropped out, in addition to four players (led by top prospect Gleyber Torres) who were dealt to other teams, and the advancement of catcher Willson Contreras and Carl Edwards Jr. to the majors.

The biggest jump involves Class-A outfielder Eddy Martinez, from 28th to 11th, and pitcher Trevor Clifton, from 18th to eighth. Also making a respectable leap is switch-hitting catcher Victor Caratini, from 24th to 17th.

Pitcher Jose Albertos, ranked 10th, made the highest debut among the newcomers. Pitcher Thomas Hatch, the Cubs’ first pick in the 2016 draft out of Oklahoma State, is ranked 13th – one spot ahead of late-season callup Rob Zastryzny.
