ROXANA CUSD #1 RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE BASEBALL TOMORROW FUND
GRANT FUNDS AWARDED FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE ROXANA HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL FIELD
ROXANA – Roxana Community School District No. 1 was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $81,909 from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. The grant will support the renovation of the Roxana High School baseball field.
The school district recently installed a new scoreboard at the field with plans to complete additional renovations to its’ only regulation baseball field. The school district works with the Roxana Recreation Department, Twin City Legion and the Southwestern Illinois Baseball League to provide summer youth baseball and softball programs and facilities.
During the summers, the high school baseball program hosts a youth camp for 3rd-9th graders and offers a summer high school team. The renovation project will support additional programming including an annual coaches’ clinic, high school post-season and summer tournaments and a MLB Pitch, Hit & Run regional competition. The grant will provide funding for the renovation of the infield and the construction of new dugouts, a storage room and net backstop.
“We greatly appreciate this grant award from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund for our project,” said Scott Harper, Roxana basebal coach. “These, along with district funds, will enable us to provide our students and the community with a first-class facility. Our mission, shared with BTF, is to further promote participation in the game with expanded opportunities for our students.”
The project will look to complete backstop/dugouts/storage construction by opening day (weather permitting) & the infield renovation after the Summer season.
”The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is proud to support the renovation of the Roxana High School baseball field,” said Cathy Bradley, Executive Director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. “On behalf of Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, we thank the Roxana school district for spearheading the community’s efforts to expand opportunities for young baseball players by providing safe and a quality playing field and new programs.”
Roxana is still accepting in-kind and monetary contributions for the baseball field program and facility. Those interested in donating to the project may contact Harper at [email protected] or follow Roxana Shells Baseball on Facebook.
