Texas hires Tulane’s David Pierce to fill baseball head coaching vacancy – Dallas Morning News (blog)

Most recently, Texas Tech’s Tim Tadlock rebuffed the Longhorns a couple of hours after his name surfaced in reports as a serious candidate to replace Garrido.

Others to have turned down Texas include UCLA’s John Savage and Oregon State’s Pat Casey. Of local interest, Texas had reportedly interviewed Dallas Baptist’s Dan Heefner for the position.

Pierce, whose overall record as a head coach is 197-109, is a Texas native and graduate of the University of Houston. Before he was named Tulane’s head coach in June 2014, Pierce was the head coach at Sam Houston State for three years.
