CLEVELAND, Ohio — The United States faces Japan tonight (Tuesday, March 21) in the second semifinal of 2017 World Baseball Classic at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The game is scheduled to begin at 9:00 on MLB Network.
On Monday night, Puerto Rico defeated Netherlands, 4-3, in 11 innings in the first semifinal game. Puerto Rico is undefeated in this tournament.
The championship game is Wednesday, March 22, at 9 p.m. at Dodger Stadium. MLB Network will televise.
USA, managed by Jim Leyland, eliminated defending champion Dominican Republic, 6-3, Saturday night in San Diego. Giancarlo Stanton hit one of his patented laser homers (exit velocity: 117.3 mph) and CF Adam Jones made a spectacular catch to deny Manny Machado a homer.
Cleveland Indians LHP Andrew Miller is a reliever for USA, which has not finished higher than fourth in the three previous WBCs. Indians SS Francisco Lindor, CA Roberto Perez and RHP Joe Colon are on Puerto Rico’s roster.
Japan is undefeated in the 2017 WBC; USA has lost twice. Puerto Rico is undefeated; Netherlands has lost twice.
Japan won the first two WBCs (2006, 2009).
