Late surge gives McDonogh swimming title – Baltimore Sun

Midway through Sunday’s Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland Swimming Championships at McDonogh, the host Eagles found themselves in an unfamiliar position — trailing Notre Dame Prep. After leading most of the meet, the Eagles were disqualified in the 200 freestyle relay when a swimmer started too early.

Thankfully for McDonogh coach Scott Ward, the Eagles rallied to win the final three events and take the A Conference title over the Blazers.

McDonogh scored 451.50 points in the victory, followed by Notre Dame Prep with 440.50 and Mount de Sales with 336.

“We called a meeting with the captains and some of the seniors [after the disqualification], and told them this is not over,” said Ward. “We had some great efforts to put us back in the position to win. I’m so proud of these girls.”
